AHH! Banging noise comming from my iroc

after i put on my pulleys, i was driving around town by myselfand what not and ran into a new bullitt mustang that embaressed me the other day with 3 of my friends in the car when he tried to race me and pulled a little more than a car on me (mind you, i had 3 other people in my car). he and i launched right off the green light and by 100 mph i had a good car and a half on him.... he got so pissed that he wanted to run it at the next light, so when we ran it again, i noticed a banging noise comming from my car. it sounds like if my tranny mount was bad, but i checked it out and it's not. it only bangs off the hole, and when it shifts from first to second. if i drop it from neutral into drive with a little gas, it'll bang (i dont normally put it in neutral and then in drive... only did it to see if it would make a noise). any suggestions? i looked at the tranny mount and it's fine... i had my friend look at the motor mounts while i moved it from park and drive and he said the motor mounts look fine, even though a mechanic told me about a month ago that my motor mounts need to be replaced. what could it be? it only happens in hard acceleration, and it honestly sounds like it's a mount cuz thats almost the same sound i heard when i busted my tranny mount. could it possibly be the rear end? my friend used to own a 300zx and whenever he'd shift at hard acceleration, it would make the same banging noise. he said it was his differential bushings though... oo, and i still beat him the 2nd time... lol

Sure sounds like the trans mount. How did you go about checking your mount? Did you try jacking the trans up a little and see if the rubber was torn on the mount?

It sounds like a tranny mount or possibly even a U-joint on its way out.

Id recommend getting a poly trans-mount. I keep buying cheap autoparts stores ones. I think I have went through 5. I haven't broke one with my 350 yet...I think its because I get no traction. I used to break them with my lo3 alot...wonder why.

Also check your torque arm bushing on the tranny. Mine's worn out and it bangs at various times, like a hard shift, or shift from neutral or reverse to drive, or a quick brake and release, just whatever will cause the rearend to buck real quick. Check your motor mounts too.

its the tranny mount. i was trying to take it off, but DAMNNN, the bolts that connect the mount to the tranny wont come off no matter how much force i put into it. wtf, im really not in the mood to take it to someone to do it for $$$ when i can do it for free, lol

and the mount that broke is a poly trans mount that i bought at advanced auto... im going to see if my friend who works at a chevy dealer can get me one from the dealer

any idea on how to take out the damn bolts? they seriously feel stuck, i dont know how the dude i paid $10 to install it made them so tight! (ehh... i didnt have a jack stand and he said he'd do it for $10 so i let him, lol).. thanks guys

Get some liquid wrench spray, or something similar, and let it soak in for a while. Should be cake after that. Goto your preferred parts/tool store and ask for something to loosen up stuck bolts, they'll give you the right stuff.

1/2'' breaker bar outta do it. If not get a pipe...more leverage! LOL you can never have to much leverage...well when the bolt breaks thats always to much

Yeah if it's too tight then you just need more leverage. You may break it off, but at least then you can drill it out and retap it. You really have no alternative but to just try and muscle it out. Multiply your torque by extending the leverage. Good luck, hope you don't break the bolt off.

done... had an extra poly mount laying around so i just put it on real quick... used a pipe for leverage, hehe

going to buy a energy suspension mount when this one breaks... hopefully it'll out last the one that broke, but i wouldnt doubt if it breaks in about a month or two
