is there a way to wire the fan to a switch where the fan is controlled by computer until i flip the switch to turn it on myself. maybe splice the wire for the switch into the already existing wire? can it be done?

Pat,

If your 'ROC is a TPI, you should be able to do it. The ECM controls the fan through a relay. It operates the relay by grounding the coil. You can connect a parallel wire to a switch to ground this wire and operate the fan any time you want. When the switch is off (ungrounded) the ECM will control the fan normally.

The wire you want is the dark green/white striped one.
