alternator not putting out a charge in my car.
i took my alternator to autozone and the tested it. it tested well, put out right above 13 volts. my problem is in my wiring, i know that. now, my question is, what is necessary for the alternator to be hooked up correctly if it is in a non computer controlled 310. it is set up like any other sbc. the alternator is from my 2.8 that was originally in my car. 1989 rs. (if that matters in wiring diagrams). i have the connector that goes to the top side of the alternator from the v6. it has two wires in it. a red wire that goes to the starter, and then an orange/white striped wire that goes to the car. where does this wire go? then i have one wire coming from the battery to the starter. anything else? i guess what confuses me about the connector with two wires is, when i got it tested over at the parts store, their connector had three wires in it. red, orange/white, and a black/white(assuming this is ground) wire. my connector doesn't even have provision for this wire. does my problem make sense? did i word this well? can anyone help me? it's got me and my dad both scratching our chin hairs!

Could try scratching top of head instead of chin's! LOL
Seriosly, Try posting on Electronics board. That's where all the wire freaks hang out!! Might have better luck there.

No, never do away with a fusible link. More serious problems can result. Fix is simple. Go to your local auto parts store and pick up a GM 16 gauge fusible link (less than $3). It will say GM on the package. Cut the old one out, splice in the new. If you get one that already has the ring on one end, be aware most likely that ring is to small for the starter stud.
