IS THE COMP CAMS 274 TOO MUCH CAM FOR ME??????

It has a 230/236 duration. I want to keep the engine under 6200rpm. How will drivability be affected and will I have to run a brake booster? - Jesse

Sounds like a lot of cam, however it really depends on LSA, doesn't it? Is it a 110 LSA? If so, expect vacuum at 14 inches or less.

I think you will probably be ok. It is a 110 lsa. You might have to idle it close to 900 rpm. I would make sure it installs at about a 106 or 107 intake centerline.

I had one of those for a while in my 400. It was good in that motor. It will be alot of cam in a 350 but manageable with the other parts you have (the carb particularly). It ran really good, sounded like the engine was angry at something and wanted to jump up out of there and kill something... I liked it, until it committed suicide.

You'll definitely need a valve spring upgrade to 986s (head machine work!!) if you haven't already done it; your lift should be about .520" IIRC with the 1.6 rockers.

Forgot to mention, the heads are the cast iron version of the center bolt aluminum vette heads. I think the only difference is the combustion chambers 64cc and 58cc for the vette.

Does anyone know the compression ratio for the 89' firebirds/camaros? I think it's either 9.3:1 or 9.5:1.

JDM,

I've got the 274 in my 327 - and yes, like RB said, it sounds right. Eh, the same cam in a smaller motor gets increasingly hairy - so my 327 sounds like.....uh.......uh....

Music.

Hard-bitten-scream-at-your-brain-musical cacophony-with-a-formula-one-heritage-make-me-bad-scare-little-old-ladies-gearhead-lovin'-thumper-with-'tude.

Yup, that's it.

Do it.
