305 w/ 350 heads
My friend is buying a 305 TPI engine from a 85 camaro and the guy that is selling it to him says there are 350 heads on it ...he thinks that if have 350 heads on a 305 makes it a 350, does it?

Ive heard that a few times. My friend got an 86 bird from a used car dealer, they told him it was a 350 then story changed to 305 with 350 heads. Some 350 castings can do allright on a 305 but the block would have to be notched for the larger valves. Double hump heads being the only ones used on a 350/327 that would keep compression reasonable.

unless they are 58cc heads (i think that's what 305s are) the 350 heads will lower compression. I think the only factory 58cc 350 Gen 1 head is the L98 aluminum corvette head. Notching the block for valve clearance will lower compression too. Sounds like a bad proposition to me.
