The 062 heads should be vortec 062's.
They will outperform the 083"s (350 L-98 TPI) hands down.
No doubt about that.
Stock 350 L-31 vortec heads (casting #062) will need some high perf machining and parts in order to bolt them on a high perf street 350 and they require a "Vortec" style manifold. But once done you won't be disapointed with the performance.
I recommend using a Edelbrock Performer RPM or a Professional Products "Crosswind" intake manifold for these heads.
They work very well.
The 083's are not bad heads in stock form and can be improved with porting etc but the vortecs are the better head overall.
Just make sure they are infact Vortec heads and you include the cost of the head mods and intake manifold in the total of your budget.
Search Carcraft's or Hot Rod's online tech articles to see what needs to be done to a vortec head to get it ready for a high perf application. All the info is there.
If you'll be replaceing a set of oldie smog 350 heads make sure ya got your seatbelt on when ya "Punch it".
