stock plug wire routing?
We recently aquired yet another project car.A 1986 IROC Z. The car needs to be put back into its stock condition first. The pulg wires look like a plate of spagetti has been poured onto the engine.I'm not kidding, some of the wires actually wrap around the steering shaft.
Anyway, does anyone have a 1986 f-body service manual that shows the details of the spark plug wire routing?Or perhaps you might know of somewhere these pictures might be posted.
if you have a manual and can scan them it would be great.(305 TPI)

No sources of pics but I think I can give you an idlea how it's supposed to go, roughly.
They are routed around behind each cylinder head, down low. There are some 4-wire looms near each corner, if they are still there. They then wrap around the end of the head and start moving forward coming up to the plugs from underneath. For the wires that have to go past each down-pipe off the exhaust manfiolds the wires are routed BETWEEN the exhaust pipe and the engine block. THere's various wire looms along the way but on most cars they are long since gone.
THis next part comes from a very very old part of my memory banks so don't take it as gospel- The plug terminals on top of the distributor start with #1 on the front-most terminal just to the driver's side of the centerline. #8, next in line, is also on the front but just to the PASSENGER side of the centerline. And so on around the distributor- 1, 8, 4, 3, 6, 5, 7, 2. Wires going to plugs #2 & #3 are the "cross over" wires that go from the far side of the distributor to get to their respective plugs on the other side of the engine.
Hope that helps.

79 Malibu "beater" w/junkyard 400 SBC, tweaked QJet 4bbl, finally a decent set of heads, a few other tricks. A maddening 13.000001 @ 108 on the motor with little traction. No nitrous runs with the new heads yet.
Grandma's old 78 Malibu (33K miles!) soon to have the powertrain from the 79 put in it.

Andy,
Not a manual, but this is the way my stock TPI looks:
The right wires are routed right over the rocker cover, down through the loom on the exhaust manifold, past the heat shields and to the plugs.
The left side wires are routed behind the head, between the exhaust pipe and block, and to the plugs.
On both sides there are several single- and double-wire clips along the way to maintain the positions. Sorry I don't have a photo of the lower sides of the block.
