how much cam lobe wear is acceptable?

just bought a used ZZ9 cam from a reputable member on www.corvetteforum.com. got it in the mail today, and noticed that about half the lobe tops are nice and smooth, but the other half are kinda rough. he said it had some minor wear, and that it should be OK. since it is a roller cam, would this matter much as the lifters are roller as well? wish i could get a pic, but i dont have a digital camera. thanks for the help in advance

Aren't roller lifters desined to reduce wear by reducing friction? Any wear on the lobes is unacceptible. Not as good as new. Once the wear starts, it wears faster. Hope you get your money back!

He should never have charged you $200 for a used cam!!!

He doesn't sound like a reputable guy.

I've bought some junk too. A CC306 a guy tried to polish up like it wasn't hurt. It had .004 - .008 wear on all lobes, plus it was pitted. The guy did refund my money plus shipping both ways so it turned out ok. Finally just bought a new one off ebay for about $40 less than Summit. It measured dead on every lobe, as I would have expected.

Just for kicks I measured a couple of other roller cams. Barely any noticable wear on any of them.

Don't you wish you were really thanking us "for the help in advance"?

Maybe it will turn out all right for you.
