Ticking noise when rolling from stop???

Well, its when I take off. If I roll off really slowly, i hear this ticking that gets faster as the car picks up speed. It disappears very soon, usually before the car even hits 2mph. This is true in both reverse and drive. I noticed when the tranny was rebuilt that the flywheel cover was removed and not replaced. Would this allow sounds to be heard that are not normally?
What else could it be? Anyone experience this? Its definitely coming from the underside of the car and not really from the engine compartment.

Thanks fellas

Will

I put a 87 GTA disc brake rear-end in my car. The driver's side brake makes a ticking sound when going real slow. Try touching the brake and see if it stops.

Hey, me again. I happened to think (again) one more thing, When you let off of your brake and the pressure comes off the pads If the rotor isn't perfectly flat (the surface) the rotor will flick the pads around in whatever space is left between the pad's ears and the calipers causing a click every time the high spot on the rotor hits the pads surface. They make a stick on pad to put on the back of the pads that's supposed to stop the noise. I wouldn't say you have a mech. problem, disc brakes are just prone to do that. other than the noise no harm is done or performance is lost.
You could also check axle bearings for play. anything more than about 1/16 of an inch of movement sideways could be worn and need replacement. Just jack up car an put jack stands under axle and see if you can move tire up and down. You can also start car, put in 1st gear and observe how smooth the tire rotates for roundness or axle being bent maybe even hear exactly where the click is comming from unless it won't do it without the car's weight on the suspension.

Thanks sqzbox, but I have experience warped rotors before and thats just not it. Its very central in the car, as if coming from the tranny area, right there where the motor meets..... its very odd, I will have to do some investigating here before I start modding the hell out of her, but thanks for all the ideas guys

Ive got the same problem norcal. Can you hear it alot better say like your in the McDonalds drive through and you move from one window to the next? Mine sounds like a a limb is stuck on my flywheel and the leaves keep slapping the ground with a Ticking/hissing noise. Can you relate?

Yes I can totally relate, this is the exact same thing. I hear it every time I am pulling out of my driveway. in a drivethru or whenever i am rolling from a stop and just letting the car pull away you know, if I give it alota gas or not even alot and it gets above a couple mph soon, you will barely notice it...... this sucks, I just wanna make sure there is not something seriously wrong with my tranny, its brand new. Rebuilt like 7 months ago, proly has like 7k miles on it.

i dont want to miss lead you but i have taken it t may shops and no one has figured it out, so i finally came to the conclusion that its nothing major just a little "bug". Its been doing it since i have had the car and i have had no problem (knock on wood) so im guessing that it ainnt much of nothing. I just quit worrying about it. If you find out though please tell me and vice versu.

my car does it and my old truck (89 GMC) did that, I think it is the trans governor weights flopping from worn out springs, as far as I know, there is no harm in this, since the governor does nothing until you're moving anyway
