Car: for now i have a 79 firebird that had a toasted 301 (imagine that!)
Engine: well i *had* a 301, but there is a pontiac 350 on the stand to get me on the road again and a 428 after that :D
Transmission: th350
would you reuse timing gears?
i am doing the cheapest rebuild ever done in the history of man kind. mostly due to the fact that i have like no cash whatsoever.
now, i know that i would need to get a new chain, but are new gears really needed? if i can skate out of paying 20 bucks that i don't really just absolutley need to, i will.

Gears? Yes (on a gear drive).
Sprockets? Maybe (chain drive - depends on wear pattern).
Chain? Never.
If the sprockets show any wear pattern, or the cam sprocket is a nylon-toothed part, trash them all and start over. If the sprockets are steel and are servicable, just replace the cahin. The chain is what stretches most, and sprockets can get mating wear. You'll know as soon as you assemble the timing drive.

yeah, i fugured on **** canning the chain, the sprocket has some wear on it, but just enough to make it a little shiney.
it has metal teeth, not the nylon ones.
this is on a 69 pontiac 350 btw, and parts are a little more for the ponchos, especially at the local parts places here.
you want pontiac parts you just walk in and bend over, then you pay way too much for it. and places like summit have them as well, but by the time i got it here it would cost about as much or maybe more that just buying it from csk.
thanks again
