LT1 ministarter Q...
Hello,
I need a new starter for my L98 T/A. found a remanufactured AC Delco unit w. 1yr warranty for low $$$; it's LT1/LT4 ministarter, part no. 323-488. Can somebody tell me if it'll fit my engine? I can't check if there're 153/168 teeth on the flexplate sine I'm 75 miles from my car
Is it a good choice to buy original remanufactured starter instead of eBay's cheap no-name ones? (I'm on a low budget ;-))
Thanks
Mike
PS I can't simply go to Autozone or another GM parts store because there aren't many of them in Europe

...or maybe I'd better buy Summit SUM-820323 mini?

An LT1 has a 153T (12-3/4") flexplate and used the starter with inline mounting bolts. That should be the same as a stock ThirdGen V-8.
If you have a 400CID block or truck engine, you might have a 14" flexplate and need the starter with an offset inner bolt hole.

Thank you Vader. I've checked some photos of my engine and I'm sure I need starter with straight bolt pattern.
How about Summit vs. Delco vs. other manufacturers?

I am going with a lt1 starter in my car eventually. Ive checked them out at work before. They are much smaller, lighter, and would be better. Would be much easier to bolt up since its 1/4 the weight (feels like it anyways) and will clear exhaust better.

i've had the lt1 starter on my 88' for about a year now. i love it. smaller lighter and doesn't sound like the "old design" hitachi starter. yuck!!! this one sounds nice, just like the "new" cars.

I've decided to buy factory style starter; do you think it's a good deal - $50 for slightly used reman. unit? :-) It's w/o box and there's still ~6 months warranty on it.

no bad at all. i bought my used 96' one for $65 with warranty.
my 96' one required new starter bolts.
don't forget you'll need the starter bolts for a LT1. the L98/LB9/LO3 etc... starter bolts are longer than the bolts used for LT1 starters. they are shorter.
