Will a 350 SBC fit into a 1966 Buick? How can I find out?
My mother's first car, a 1966 Buick Skylark convertable with a Wildcat 308ci v-8 or somthing like that, finally blew a rod.
I want to drop a 350 in it, will it mount up OK? I guess anything can be made to fit, right...
------------------
1984 z28 w/ a 357 cu in. monster engine which is looking like the posterchild for Edelbrock... all the suspension stuff... 9-bolt posi disk is in... K&N filter... 93 octane...

Bio,
You'll likely have trouble with the transmission mounting to the engine. The patterns were different until 1977-78 for many GM engines. You'll probably want to use a later TH350 anyway.

It will not drop in; as Vader mentioned, the bolt pattern on the trans case is different, the motor mounts are different, and the exhaust won't bolt up. Plus the starter is on the other side of the motor, so the battery is too.
If you really want to do that, the best thing to do would be to come up with a Chevelle from that year, and get all the different stuff off of it. Personally I think you'd be better off repairing what's there, as that car should be worth a fair amount of money, and an engine swap will devalue it. About the ony thing I'd do other than a direct repair would be to swap a Buick 350 into it.

Do you guys have an idea where to get crate Buick motors? I figure a big block Buick motor would not fit the tranny for the same reasons mentioned above too.
Do you think it isn't too damaged with a broken rod that it might be salvageable?

You might want to check with places like Jasper; they may have what you need, with a warranty and everything.

I am no expert on Buick engines, but I somehow remember that Buick is a "one block family". I know Olds and Pontiac definitely are (one block family) and I've always assumed Buick is because you never hear the term "small block and big block Buick engines". If it is, then a Buick 455 will bolt straight in.
