Sounds good but.......I don't know how you could get 2"1/16th & 1"13/16th valves in a 186 head. After market heads only accept 2.050 & 1.650 or 2.08 & 1.60.

my brother is running the 282HR in his 383 with only 2.73 rear gears. He does have a 2800 rpm stall though. He has a good deal of low end power with that cam but he has a few more cubes and 200cc intake runners in his Iron eagle heads. You did say you had a 350 right.
Anyway the 288HR does seam a little much. I would stick with the decision to go with the 282HR if it was me.

I run a tranny shop for my pops, so i'll worry about the stall when the heads go on tommarrow, but i'll probably go with a 3000 stall
yes 350....cam should be in in the morning

Did you ever CC the heads?
Higher the CR, more duration needed to tame the engine...i/e 12:1cR w/ a 202@.o50 cam will go through starters like crazy, but once started..will ping like a **** as well.
CC the heads before you buy anything. Match CR to the cam. We'll assume the heads will flow it for now.
My uneducated guess is .1 milled 186's on your motor, regardless of cam...willl bring you back in a week or two with the topic...
"Just installed new heads and cam...motor doesn't feel like it should"

the heads just came off a 383 with dome pistons, he ran it with 93 oct mixed with 112 oct
and before they were on a 350 30 over, it pinged a little with 93 oct and as if the heads will flow he doesnt have junk work done on his engines......takes his racing seriously...drag racing...and as for my situation I more than likely will be running either avgas or 112 mixed with pump...and have plenty of starters sitting around
