What to use to clean heads and tpi unit?

I tried cleaning them with gasoline and a paint brush, but that just takes off the really heavy grime off of them. They still have a dirty look to them. I haven't tried engine degreaser on the heads yet, and I'm going to, but I don't think I should try it on the tpi unit. Doesn't that stuff eat aluminum? What do you guys use?
