305?350?rebuild?replace?
for the past two weeks i`ve read old postings and need help
my car is a 89 bird 305 tbi auto runs good just a bit slow was going to rebuild ,new heads cam intake and tbi ,read what everyone said for the time and money while its out change to a 350 and it made sense more cubes any mods give better resaults
the read how long swaps took ,mods to fit ,sensors not right,prom needing changed 3or 4 times.planning this project late winter /spring and trying to get ready any insight woulb be helpful

Engine: 1 BA 305 TPI
Transmission: Probuilt 700R4 - 2800 Stall Midwest
Axle/Gears: 3.42
If the 305 is running good keep it. If you have to rebuild it then I would probably go to the 350. You can build a 305 up to run just as fast and faster than a 350. Keep the 305 unless it has to be changed. If the block is good and the crank and pistons are good, mod that 305. I'm not a fan of the TBI but that can always be changed.

yea i want to keep fi . if i stay with the 305 ill keep tbi,for a swap i was looking at 350 with tpi figured to buy a compete car or talk to one of the yards i deal with for the motor, harness,and ecm i dont mind some work just want tomake it as easy as i can on myself thats why im planning this far ahead i figure ill have the suspention done by then

I would ditch the TBI and put the TPI on there. Get aftermarket manifold and runners though.

Unless you have some touchy feely thing for TPI, and you plan on getting a running, used engine from the yards...consider just the long block, get the computer and harness, and get a Holley Stealth Ram...or find a complete LT1 engine...which should be fairly easy...cost less in the long run as well if hp is your thing.

decided to go with lt1, have a line on a few and some friends looking. kept doing the math and just thougt the swap made moe sense besides haven`t got real dirty and swore alot in a long time
