STB contacts hood - wtf?!?!
This had really been bugging me. First, while I was swapping the motor I, being the idiot hick that I am, put the hood on the hill around my garage so it would be out of the way and safe. Of course my dad slipped and landed on it, warping the passenger side up by the windshield - but only a little.
Well, I bought an Edelbrock stb from a guy selling his Iroc that had never installed it for $25. I was looking into the Hotchkiss tubular piece, but the Edelbrock one triangulates to the firewall, and for $25 I couldn't pass it up.
So I measured everything off to make sure it was centered, put it together without bolting it to my car to see how it would look and fit, and then drilled for the bolt holes. After putting everything together I went to shut the hood. Not only will it not shut unless I put some pressure on it, but when I open it I can see where the points on each side where it somes up from the shock towers are making contact with the padding under the hood.
At this point I'm pissed because not only does it not fit, but I've cut into my car to put it there in the first place. I did close the hood when I was fitting it all up before I drilled but I didn't think it made contact.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Other than getting rid of the damned STB. If I can't make it work then I will use the mounts on the shock towers as reference points for getting my own custom piece made. That way I don't have to drill again. Is there a better alternative?
BTW - this really pisses me off since I don't need the STB to be located so high with an LT1 under it. There's about 8" of clearance between them!

"So what DOES the back of a Mustang look like?"

Sounds like your dad falling on the hood screwed that up for ya. Did you try adjustingthe rubber stoppers upward near the front of the hood? This might hold the hood up more. Since the hood was removed, you just might have to tinker and adjust it a bit.
Sorry I'm not more help.

If you've gotta fix it, fix it better than stock.

I don't know if the balancers will help or not. My problem is that I am absolutely **** about the car and raising the hood would put it out of alignment with the fenders. Actually, it already is up by the passenger corner. I'm thinking that I'm not going to worry about it for now. I've got other thigs to worry about on the car so for now the STB will be taken off to return at a later date.
I figure that within the next two or three years I will finish up all of my serious mod phases for the car. Once I'm done putting the 430hp LT1 355 in this fall my next steps will be building the 4l60e, getting a 9", and then slapping 12psi of intercooled boost through that puppy! When all of that is done I'll do some bodywork and send it off to be painted. When I get to the body work I'll get a new hood and roll from there.
What would y'all think of a 100% stock looking red 91 RS that eats Vipers for breakfast and will probably run in the high 10s? That's what I've been thinking for about 2 years now
