Trick Flow Heads

I was thinkin bout building a 383 and I saw the posting about the Vortec, didnt seem like a good choice, how bout Trick Flow 23 degree aluminum head? Theyre cheap and seem pretty good. Is a 1.25" spring enough? Also, what kind of cam should I use, id like a rough idle but need power brakes, etc. thanks

Those Trick Flow's are pretty good heads for the price. The springs are solely dependent on what came. You can have 1.25 springs good to .500 lift, or clear up to .620 lift. I think the springs they have on assembled only go to .480 or .500 lift. But all in all, great set of heads.

Good luck!

I just bought a set of the centerbolt ones from Summit. I think they would be perfect for a 383. The standard springs are good for 520 lift. IM having mine bowlported, for less than 900 shipped you cant go wrong.

Good luck!

I would also like to hear more about these heads. I am thinking about buying a set because the vortec's wont work with my manifold.

Be prepared to wait 3-4 months for them from Summit.

my 2 cents, I have had awesome results with the Edelbrock Performer RPM 64cc chamber Aluminum heads! about $950, I think... Haven't heard anything bad about them, to date. I wish that the RPM's had a cenerbolt offfering but sometimes the centerbolt covers interfere w/roller rockers, anyway.

I have the Trick Flow 23* heads on my 383 with the 1.47" springs. I have the Comp Cams XE284H-10 cam. Specs: .507 Int/.510 Exh valve lift, 240 Int/246 Exh duration at .050, 110 Lobe separation. Slightly rough idle, but nothing that will shake the car apart. Sounds AWESOME. Wish I had used the SLP 1 3/4" headers with the Borla 3" adjustable cat back though.
