Hood problems

Alright, lame question, but here it goes. When I pull my hood release nothing happens, then I drive around and it'll pop. Is it easy to replace, and how to fix it? Seems as though I could pull on it all day, it'll pull out maybe an inch or so, and nothing happens. Need this so I don't get embarassed at emmisions again, hehe. Thanks in advance.

Try gently but firmly pounding on the hood above the latch with the soft part of your hand. works for me

When I pull my hood release nothing happens either. I just put my hands under the part of the hood that goes over the headlights and pull up. Then it pops just fine. One time after I pulled the release I slammed the car door and the hood popped when I done that. I never really thought much of it.

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
The release mechanism could be gummed up...spray it down with some carb or brake cleaner to remove the gunk. I ended up hooking one end of a tension spring to the top part of the catch mechanism on the latch, and the other to the rad support, which pulled the catch over when the release is pulled.
