How much power can stock rods hold?

How much power can stock rods hold?
I am thinking of switching to carb, and using keith black forged pistons, with my stock rods can I use a 175 shot of nos? will they hold that kind of power?

They probably would for a while, but for about $45, I think I would put some ARP's in. If you have to change the pistons, you'll already be there anyway. That's cheap insurance, less than the wrecker bill for a tow home .

He's talking about rods not rod bolts. Rods better be more expensive than just 45 dollars. LOL

well, yeah, ur gonna want to switch to a better rod... it will be a bit more money, but with a nitrous shot like that, i would say ur stock rods will eventually break. they are supposed to be good till about 400hp... for a street motor.... but even then, at 400hp, ur takin a chance...

Brandon, you can make the stock rods live comfotably with a 175 shot. I'd consider forged pistons over the KB hypereutectic pistons. If you swap out to ARP or similar rod bolts and polish the beams your rods should be ok. Nitrous usually wreaks havoc with pistons, whilst high RPM blasts are usually the killer for rods.

Stock factory rods can take more abuse than most people will believe. Other parts such as pistons and rod bolts will usually let go before you damage a rod. If you have ARP bolts and forged pistons then the rods become the weak link in the system. I'd guestimate 500 HP would be acceptable. My engine was pushing close to that when I blew it up and it wasn't a rod failure but rod bolts and cast pistons. Adding a huge dose of NOS or supercharging may put too much pressure on the rods. A typical 150 shot of NOS will not hurt a good engine.
