Oil capacity
Hallo to everybody !
I just swapped a 305 ( build in 1978 ) for a 350 ( build in 1987 ). I purchased the rebuild block without an oil-dipstick-tube. I installed one from Mr.Gasket ( MRG-6237 ). Now my problem is, I had to refill about 8 liters of oil since I saw anything on the dipstick. That seem a lot to much ( aren´t 5 liters normal ? ). Perhaps I have the wrong dipstick-tube installed ?
Thanks, Uwe

I only put 4 quarts in my 88 formula and it reads about a 1/4 quart over. There is a slight dent in the bottom of the pan but I don't think that should really make a full 1.25 quart difference. Unless of course there's a difference between an 88 305 pan / 350 pan and the 350 block I put in the car.

You have something REALLY wrong.
5 fluid quarts (US) is equal to 4.73 liters.
I would only put about 4 to 4.25 liters in WITH the oil filter on. It's better to be a little low than too much.

Okay, I checked it out, and I had definitely installed a wrong dipstick. No I filled in about 5 quarts a it reads right. Now my problem is, that I have some oil-leaks. One is right in front of the engine ( between the oilpan and the timing-cover ) and the other one above the starter. Could the high pressure due to the overfilling shot my oilpan-gasket or is there another place I can look ? - I read something about a missing front bolt (the upper one on the passengerside of the waterpump ), is this relevant for a 1989-engine, too ? ( 350, casting-number 10054727).
Thanks in advance,
Uwe
