What Heads for a 350

I am building a 350 to put in my 91 Z28. I will use the 305 TPI unit. What heads would be the best for about 300 325 HP? Would the L98 heads be the best for this combo? Also headers, and a cam. Any suggestions?

Well, the L-98 heads would certainly make the swap easier since they were designed to work with TPI intakes. A little porting, some fresh springs, bring them back to flat with a little milling and you're in good shape. Not the highest performing heads out there but should be cheap to lay your hands on a decent set.

Cam- shoot for about 210-220 intake duration @ .050", little more on the exhaust side with a nice wide 112-116 lobe separation and you should get good results. Its mild enough that you could probably still get by with a stock chip in the ECM (but more on that later).

Exhaust- no big deal. 1 5/8" or 1 3/4" headers into a 3" cat and cat-back. SLPs are REALLY nice headers but $$$$$. Edlebrocks are a little more reasonable and still stainless steel. Lots of other choices out there. Might want to have whatever you get "Jet Hot" coated to keep the heat IN and the rust OFF.

If you are using the stock 305 TPI's (19lb) injectors then you will need to increase the fuel pressure from ~42 PSI stock to about 55 PSI to compensate for the extra displacement they need to feed. Or drop in a set of 22lb 350 TPI injectors.

But considering you will have undersized injectors and an aftermarket cam you might just want to go with an aftermarket chip to bring all this together for you, tuning-wise.

79 Malibu "beater" w/junkyard 400 SBC, tweaked QJet 4bbl, finally a decent set of heads, a few other tricks. A maddening 13.000001 @ 108 on the motor with little traction. No nitrous runs with the new heads yet.
Grandma's old 78 Malibu (33K miles!) soon to have the powertrain from the 79 put in it.

I would go with a set of AFR 195 heads, a set of SLP 1 3/4 headers, a 3 inch cat back (edlebrock, hooker, flowmaster, random tech, ect.), and a the LT4 cam or the ZZ9 cam.

Darts the best heads for the cash man. I agree that the SLPs are the best headers. LT4 hot cams are good, but i have heard that they have problems with the heat treating on them and that they grenade in engines. check it out before you buy. Comp, Edlebrock, or SLP make cams. TPIS is big into thirdgens and they have cams too. Talk to them and see what they think.
