If you talk to Mobil, they'll tell you to change per the manufacturer's instructions while under warranty. After that, 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

On the other hand, AMSOIL will tell you 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first, changing the filter at half that interval (either miles or time, if using their filters).

Which one is more confident in their product?

Does it hurt anything to change synthetic oil more often? Just one thing, your pocketbook. But, others say, oil is cheap compared to an engine, even synthetic oil. True, but buy the best, and keep your mind at rest. Been doing it for 17 years, not a single lubrication related failure while using AMSOIL.

Just a little tid-bit about Mobil 1 synthetic oil...

In 1976 or 1977, Popular Science took a car and filled the engine with Mobil 1 synthetic oil. They then ran the car 100,000 miles without changing the oil (they did change the filters however). After they concluded the test they pulled the enginge, took it apart, and measured everything. After 100,000 miles and no oil changes, the engine still met manufacturer's specifications.

Having said that, I use Mobil 1's synthetic and I change it every 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. When I pulled the heads and intake off my car everything looked good (no sludge in the lifter valley or noticeable wear) so I think that's a good formula.

Anyone used that new FRAM X2 filter that they say is good for like 8000 miles. It cost me 9 bucks so it better be. I am using it with mobil one and plan to change it at 4000 miles.

I don't like to go over 3000 miles on regular oil. After reading all that stuff about synthetic oil yall said I might have to start buying that stuff, esp since I drive 2000 miles a month. That would save me money in the long run. One problem though. I lose about a quart per 3000 miles so I'd be leaking out expensive oil and having to buy more expensive stuff to replace it. One more thing does anyone else enjoy a noticable difference in power on fresh oil. I honestly noticed a bigger difference when I change my oil than when I put in new spark plugs.

I've come to realize that I'm gonna have this car till it pukes for good, b/c I'll never be able to bring myself to sell it.
