best head for the buck?

best head for the buck?
alright, i am currently doing research to build project "mighty mouse" as it has been dubbed. it will include a 350 bored .030 with a set of JE dished pistons. i am set on a cast crank right now cause i have seen many many cast cranks go a long way before failure. eagle ESP rods will go in. Patrick Budd of Budd Performance is going to grind me a custom cam based on the final setup. this will all be accompanied by a d-3 procharger to ram all of the air/fuel through. so my question is: what heads should i use that will not have to be worked much and do not require the use of offset rockers on the intake side. thanks a bunch guys.

I'd give my vote for Pro Lightnings.
You can get them in iron for 700-750 IIRC. I picked up my aluminum one on sale for $875 shipped.
I put them on without doing any work to them, and they seem great. I should have track times/dyno #s this coming weekend.

I think that you can get pro lightnings in more than one size. I think that there is 200 and maybe bigger. If you search, people have posted links to them. By the way, how much does that supercharger setup cost?

well, it is a carburated application so most of the setup will be custom, but i think my buddy paid 2000-3000 for his head unit. (the procharger itself) it's not going to be cheap, i know that, but well worth my time and money. with that much boost, i don't know that your motor would hold it though, being 10:1. i am going to run about 7.5-8:1

the more and more i think about it, i think that i will need to go with a forged crank and different rods. i will need to talk to Patrick Budd and Jim Filipowski before i go with any one brand cause they are helping me build the motor. you can visit jim at his website www.jim-powski.com

Yes, I would definately go with a forged crank if you can. I think that callies has a budget(lol) forged crank. I think it is called the dragon slayer. I have heard good things about it but it is still a bit costly. What crank are you using and how much power/rpms are you planning? I think that they have some non forged cranks out there that are good to 700-800 hp which is what I was considering if I build a 383 out of the lt1, but if I supercharge it, I dont know how well that will work out.

my vote goes to Pro Topline (formerly Pro Lightening). I scored a complete set of assembled 200cc aluminums with thier kit 2 springs for 1010.00 delivered, from Pro Shaver heads in california. These heads have great flow numbers. The mid lift numbers in the 200-400 lift range are great and they flow good up top too. Meet or beat AFR heads flow numbers all the way.

Has anybody obtained 3rd party flow numbers for pro-topline stuff? I have been looking seriously at those heads, but I find the numbers a bit hard to swallow.
The 180CC heads supposedly outflow AFR 195's, not just at low lift, but all the way through the band.
The 200CC heads outflow just about any nonrace head out there, according to their literature.
Yet you can pick these up for the same price as garbage world products S/R stuff? Seems WAY to good to be true.
From the pictures I've seen, they design looks good. They have a moden chamber design, and a very agressive high floor port.
But you can't tell flow from LOOKS.
Anyone?

well, my buddy tommy has a set too, i don't know if he still has them, but they are the 235's and they are bad!
should i go with cast iron or aluminum? the motor would see tons of thrashing at the track and maybe a road trip to the local drive in hamburger joint every know and then. no more then 10 miles though.

.100 - 67
.200 - 134
.300 - 193
.400 - 237
.500 - 263
.600 - 270
.700 - 278
I have seen people post flow numbers that are lower than the advertised, but they had larger valves than Pro Topline recomends. I have a set of the 200cc heads on my car right now, and hope to have dyno numbers in a few weeks. Just have to break in the engine. I did not flow mine but they looked great out of the box.
Here is a good thread on them
