My friend bought the less radical SLP cams from Summit for his LO3 (not much different than an LG4), and it did a great job, great power from like 2750+

I threw a 204/214 into my 305 TPI (had same cam as your LG4) and it made a nice improvement.
Make sure to swap in a decent carb intake while you're got the stock one off for the cam swap anyway. A Performer or a Stealth intake would be nice, fairly cheap and can be reused on a 350 as long as you use convential heads on it.
For HP to expect from the cam change, heres a tidbit. From 85 to 86 in the TPI cars the addition of that same peanut cam you have as the only change caused a 25hp drop in the rated hp (stock 85 cam was 202/207). Stands to reason you should gain around there by swapping it back out to a decent cam. Throw in a decent improvement from the intake as well and you should be making a very nice upgrade.

You'll get about 15-20 HP at most from a cam and intake swap, at the most. The first, most important, most restrictive bottleneck in that motor, is the exhaust. It is absolute constipation, all the way from the heads to the street.
If you put a decent exhaust system on it by itself, you probably won't notice a really huge improvement, maybe 15 HP. Same for the cam. It doesn't matter what cam you slide in there, there's no flow; and it doesn't matter how much you open up the exhaust, if the valves are just barely cracked. However, the combination of the 2 should give you about 50 HP, or maybe even a little more if you change the intake too. Think about this - the LG4 was rated at 145 HP, the L69 at 190 which is widely known to be low; the major differences are the exhaust, the cam, and the compression. The L69 cam is still weak, but that should give you a clue as to how bad the LG4 cam-exhaust combo really is.
The LG4 is a crap motor as it comes, but has the potential to be alot better with simple bolt-on stuff. Unfortunately, once you've done the 3 things mentioned above, you reach its limit. On the other hand the exhaust will be even more critical for your 350, and the intake and cam could be re-used on a 350, if you make the right choices.
BTW the L69 asir cleaner is a very worthwhile addition too. DON'T use an open element, you will give away at least 5 HP from picking up hot under-hood air instead of cold air that the HO setup delivers.
