If I'm not mistaken, some of the 2.8 liters in '86 were carbed and some were MPFI(multi-point fuel injection). My brother had a '85 camaro with the MPFI 2.8 in it.Wasn't too bad for that size engine. He said he never had much trouble with it.I'm sure the same went for the other vehicles that G.M. put that engine into.

In the blazer it will be either carb or throttle body. Only the cars got the MPFI 2.8s back then. My 85 cherokee had a 2bbl on it. I believe 86 was the same. It ran great, had enough power to chirp 2nd if you hammered it, but it was really slow.

The '85 was a 2bbl, so there is a good chance that it may be a 2bbl also. But I can tell you that the 2.8's in the Blazer SUCKS. Those trucks can't even get out of their own way.

yes and no. They aren't going to win you any drag races, but when geared properly they really aren't that bad. My cherokee got around well enough to passify me for the winter.

My "cubemate" at work bought an '87 Blazer new with the 2.8. He put 275k on it before buying a new Blazer this spring. He put a new engine in at 175k, but had very little trouble beyond that. This is mile-high country, remember, and he put a lot of those miles up in the mountains on hunting trips. His had the 5-speed, which made a big difference over an auto for being able to get out of its own way. Of course, he likes the 4.3 much better.

Oh, the '87 did not have MPFI.

'85 was the first year for MPFI on the 2.8's, but apparently it was just put into the f-bodies.

Edelbrock makes a power package for the 2.8 Blazers.. you can get a 2bbl or 4bbl intake manifold, a carb, and I believe a camshaft. There's also 2.8 truck headers available.

[edit] Removed ignition module info- sorry! Stupid cut & paste...
