might wanna upgrade your intake while your at it to get more benifit from your cam
talk to some of the TBI guy about the freebie mods you can do the throttle body etc
I would spring for a new aluminum manifold too since your going to be taking it off anyway..
good luck on the swap
post your results

262HR: Good choice. That'll work!
It's kind of on the mild side, but it'll still be a major step up from stock. It will idle smooth, cause you no computer trouble, get good gas mileage and all that. You could conceivably go up one step like the one I picked for you but then you might have potential tuning issues. This one should be pretty much a bolt-in and drive proposition.
The lifters in your list are flat tappet. You don't need them. You can re-use the ones you have. That'll save you 76 skins. Other than that, the prices look about right; usually if you check Jeg's, Summit, PAW, and the other mail-order places, and your local speed shop (don't forget, you have to add shipping to mail-order), you'll see quickly who has the best deal.
I think you'll really like it.

I'm running a 206/206 degree, .500/.500 lift cam at 110 sep. Similar to your selection, with some slight differences. Mine has a little shorter duration than yours, but more lift.
On my TPI system, this cam makes GOBS of torque. Did I say gobs? I meant a whole frikkin' truckload of gobs of torque. I got torque coming out my wazzooo. I can pull stumps with this motor!
Idle quality is fine. Sounds like a ***** cat until you drop the right sneaker.
Only trouble with my cam is that it really starts to run out of steam above 4500 rpm. Part of that is my short duration at .050, and part of that is because of my TPI system. Your cam has slightly longer duration than mine, and I believe that your TBI system won't have such a radical drop off at upper rpm ranges.
Have fun.
p.s.: you will need to have good sticky tires to prevent lighting up the rear end every time you leave a stoplight in front of a cop.

It's a Comp Cams brand. Magnum 260HR to be precise. Mine is a retro-fit roller setup. Roller cam, roller lifters, in a pre-'86 block. The roller lifters allow the radically high lift in such a short duration. The same "260" type cam in a non-roller lifter design would typically have an overall lift of more like .440 to .450 at the valve.

D_Amlee,
I think that 99% of your lack of power above 4500rpm is your TPI. Stock TPI drops off the map after 4500. Your cam's duration is still strong enough to pull up to 6,000rpm. I had a much milder duration cam (194/204) in my last 305 TBI and it pulled up to 6,000 all day long.
Open up that TPI system and watch your rpm's go through the roof!!
And your comment about the GOBS of torque helps me feel better too. I have a 208/214 roller cam in my new 350 and I was getting worried that it won't be up to the task. I was told by a few custom chip makers to stay mild with the duration to keep my TBI setup happy. I really wanted the next step up which is a 214/220 duration. We'll see what happens when I get the new 350 running (very soon).
