Darrell Young Stalls, Are they worth it???
I am interested in installing a TC and I saw that darrell Young had a pretty reasonable price on a 2000-2400 stall for my L98 350 with a 3.23 rear.
Is the stall good or should I go another direction????

His torque converter is a good deal for the money. It worked really well for me, until I modified my engine. Now, since turning it up over 6500 rpm numerous times, it seems the torque converter has ballooned, and I get some pretty serious tranny slippage as a result.

Well I've been real happy w/ mine which I mentioned in another post. But I'm not turning 6500 rpm either. My motor is no slouch though and I haven't had any problems. I would definitely take the DY unit over all the other units in the same price range, especially the TCI and B&M stuff which appears to be trash.
Someone will come in here and preach the PI Vigilante converter sooner or later, so I'll just mention it anyway. Apparently the badassed converter to get but I can't justify $500-600 + for a converter.
BTW, DY sells some higher performance models if you are going to be running something hardcore.
Anyway I've been real happy w/ mine and it appears to be holding up under my setup so far (vortec headed 350, Perf RPM intake, decent cam, full exhaust, etc...)
Oh yeah and are you sure the prob is the converter TomK and not just a dead 700r4? Just wondering if thats your guess so far or if you've already determined for sure its the TC.

I had a DY converter and pulled a 1.79 short time on a single pull rear one time.
They are pretty good.
I have a viglinate now.

Well, when I was on a Dynojet chassis dyno last month, one guy who builds 700R4 trannies told me he thought the converter was ballooned, which was the reason my engine was not putting power to the rear wheels. The dyno operator, said it was weird that the engine seemed so strong, but the "drivetrain" had some major slippage, and he also mentioned converter because he said he could feel the tranny hit at 2500 then the rpm would climb but the mph would stay the same. They both said converter possbly ballooned, so that is where my info is coming from.
