headers for LG4

I would like some advice on what headers will give me the best performance on my LG4 motor. I want to get a good sound, but the biggest issue is power increase. Thanks for the help.

Depends on your budget. Either way, no matter what you get, it will greatly help.

You have 2 options, to keep your car emissions legal or not. To take off the emissions, the headers are usually cheaper. IMHO Edelbrock or SLP headers are the best that stay legal. If you want to ditch emissions, I'd go for Hooker headers or hedmen headers (i believe hedman has both).

Yeah i've got the headmans. It sounds tons better and there are noticeable performance gains. I would recommend the headmans w/ the matching y-pipe if you're going to ditch the emissions crap.

Headman Hedders and matching y-pipe, Edelbrock Performer, Ram Air, Accell cap and rotor, Accell Supercoil, 160 stat, highflow Catco converter, absolutely no other smog equipment, B&M shift kit, Rapidfires, numerous carb mods, and flex-a-light fan.

I would recomend the Edelbrock TES, they are the best bang for the buck.

Current Mods: Edelbrock TES Headers, Hooker Cat-Back System, Performance Resource Chip, 160* Thermostat, Accel 8.8mm Ignition Wires, K&N high flow air filters, gutted air box, gutted MAF sensor, Throttle Body Coolant By-Pass, Homemade Ram-Air, Falken ZIEX Z-Rated Tires.

1/4 mile times without chip:
Best ET: 15.7 @ 89MPH
Best Corrected ET: 14.5 @ 96MPH

Yeah, I would just go with a cheap header. Headman's are fine, but they are 1 5/8" headers. For an LG4 that isn't about to undergo a major power upgrade I would try for 1 1/2" headers. They compliment the low power output of the LG4 better. I'll have to look and see who makes a 1 1/2" f-body header for cheap, 1 5/8" is by far the majority of the small block headers.

I just put a set of edelbrock pollution headers on my 85 LG4 Z and I am really pleased. The power is better in the mid range and the sound is also more pronounced.

Let me help you out Dr. P. I bought a set of PAW 1-1/2 headers for $99 (obtw, they are shorties for '82-'92 F-bodies with O2 bung and no air tubes) and had a local muffler shop (friends of mine) make up a Y-pipe for $40. My times on this LG4 replacemnet (don't ask, L69 died ) with an A4 and open 3.73 rear was 16.5 @ 87 before the headers (only flowmaster 3" exhaust, 1.6 Crane roller rockers and a K&N air filter at LACR elevation = 2800'), after the headers it went 15.539 @ 90.54 (same mods but at Pomona elevation = ~1000'). I have shown you proof that 1-1/2 headers are better for stock-mild 305s. JMHO
