OK, I said that I would post who had the best price when I finally got my new carpet, so here it is. http://www.1aauto.com/ 1AAuto. I paid $110 for the front carpet. The rear is $100, and custom molded floor mats are $60. I think the price on their web site is higher than what they actually charged me.

Now, I have started putting this carpet in, and have a question. Is there a thick double-sided tape that I could use to hold down the carpet where it goes over the driveshaft tunnel in the rear? Where can I get it on a Sunday? It would look a lot better if I could get it flush against the metal.

ZBRA, that's the same place where I bought my carpet- and you're right about the prices! The website wants I think $130 for the carpet, but over the phone the guy told me $110. I didn't have a problem with getting the back driveshaft tunnel to hug the metal... did you cut your front seatbelt holes yet (on the tunnel)? Those might help force the carpet down...

ZBRA' check out Home Depo or Lows for some carpet tape. It's double sided and if its not thick enough just keep adding layers till it as thick as you want it.

I ended up using a windshield install kit to hold it down. It was the only thing I could find at 3 this morning.

On the tunnel I have a lot of bolts sticking through because of my Jegs torque arm. I believe that this caused the problem. The carpet is excellent quality and fit.

G** D*****, M***** F****** console won't fit. It won't fit with the shifter and floor stamping sitting so far to the left. I am going to have to build a custom console. In the far depths of the back of my mind, I knew that this was coming.

Anybody got a console out of an '89 or later C4 with a ZF6 that I can cut up?

Woah, dude, did you try enlarging the holes for the console/shifter?? The holes that ACC left me with were way too small- I used the old carpet as a cutting guide, but I made the new cuts "smaller". Then when the carpet was in, I enlarged the holes until it all worked. I'm surprised ACC left me such little holes for that center area! The "correct" holes were much larger.

If anything, you can borrow carpet from the butt-end of the ACC rug to shove "under" a badly cut hole. (Yes, I had to do this.. darn. I'm the only person that can tell tho.)

[edit] Never mind... didn't realize you meant the plastic console itself wasn't fitting...

if you look at pics of the 92 firehawk the console was all cut up for that thing too.

I went and bought another console today to start hacking away on. Will anyone give me some advice on how to mold placstic together and make it look right. Can I use bondo on plastic. I have never done this before, but this whole tranny swap forced me into undiscovered territory.

ZBRA: I just installed my carpet from ACC yesterday. As previously mentioned the console hole in the carpet has to be enlarged. Are you putting in something different like an aftermarket shifter? If you're using stock pieces it should all fit back together fine. Let us know how you make out before you start hacking up a console. You can't really do anything with plastic after you hack it up.

Toxic Avenger: The carpet is in now with no problems. The reason the problems is the Corvette ZF6 that I installed in it. I had to cut a huge section out of the floor and weld a new section in that sticks up farther. The console doesn't fit because the shifter sits too far to the left.

POR-15 makes a 2 part plastic putty that works great for molding and repairing. While you can't run right out and get it, if you have time you might want to order a stick. It is a tan/grey color, so you'd have to repaint over it. BTW you can replace whole missing sections with the stuff. It is also drillable and tapable. Also it will tend to sag if not supported until it is cured.

Hey ZBRA...how do you like the Jeg's torque arm??? Thinking about getting one for my '83 with a 400sb and muncie 4-speed. I too am building new counsle, just top though. Good luck.

I like the torque arm now that it is in. I hated it while I was installing it. I also put poly bushings in my stock control arms (did not box them), and I have no wheel hop. Instead of bouncing, the tires just scream at the top of their lungs.

The car launches good with the arm. It lifts the front up pretty even. Can't beat the price.

in aus you can get molded carpet for 3rd gens ..perfect fit at only $200 aus $$ (around $100 us$$) any colour you want with drivers and passengers plastic mats in place
easy to fit
as for working with consol and changing shapes etc fibreglass works great and can even be coloured to suit your needs ..this happens alot on cars in aus on the conversions to rh drive ..my dash is completely fibreglass
