Kink in one of my transmission cooler lines...

'89 IROC in the sig; 700-R4 transmission...

The upper transmission cooler line nearest the transmission got "hyper-extended" when I first pulled the engine on the car and forgot to disconnect the lines (DOH!). I figured it out pretty quickly, but by the time I was ready to reconnect the lines, I noticed that the first bend in the upper one had been bent such that the internal diameter was greatly reduced. I doubt if it is completely closed off, however.

I have been driving the car for the past couple of weeks, and it *seems* to be okay. Would this hurt the performance of the transmission, or otherwise jeprodize the longevity of it? I plan on fixing this some other time, but since GM no longer makes them, it might have to wait until I can get some time to make them by myself...

Thanks

If it is just one bend then here is what you can do. Take a tubing cutter and cut it just before the bend and after. If you take out only 1 1/2 inches or less you can just get a compression fitting from Autozone and put in there.

I did this on my car so that when I take my tranny out it's easier to do. I hate trying to get my hand and a wrench up on the side of the tranny when it's in the car. I have used these on my car for about 4 years and they don't leak.

this is a ghetto way of doing it , but you can also slap a rubber hose on there (like a fuel hose that is reinforced). two clamps on each side and believe it or not it won't leak (but might).

like I said it's ghetto but fast and better than the kink.

I myself would replace both lines as they are cheap enough , I think they'll cost you about $60
