after 1.6 roller rockers, what should be next?

I have a stock 350 TPI (as far as I know it's stock), with K&N filters, Edelbrock headers, and a flowmaster. I'm having 1.6 roller rockers, and new springs plopped in the beginning of next week, and I am wondering what the next logical performance upgrade would be? I was thinking of getting a cam, but the guy I talked to said it wouldn't be worth the labor time to go that far in the engine to just install a cam. So, the cam will come later maybe when I get some porting done or something.

So, aside from a cam, what would the next logical performance upgrade be? I was thinking of some lower end gears? I'm not sure what I have now, my tranny is a 700R4, and cruzing at 70 MPH, my RPMs are 2300.

any Idea on what gears I have? Would lower end gears be a good upgrade next? if so, what size should I go?

I'm not expecting much gain from just the 1.6 roller rockers, so I think I'm going to want lots more

I want low end power, because to me, that is more fun than top end power, and I never drive any faster than 75.

Thanks yall!

Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
And this person thinks changing to 1.6:1 ratio rockers is going to have more effect than a new cam????

No. The main reason I'm putting the rockers and springs in, is because I need to change my valve seals. I have had the rockers and springs laying around for a while, so I decided to get them put in with the seals

I'd guess you have 3.23 gears. thats waht I used to have and ran 2000rpm at 65 and about 3300 at 110 or so.

A 3'' I pipe and a higher stall TC would be good.

I actualy just got a higher stall converter (along with a tranny rebuild with a corvette servo, and other performance stuff), not sure what RPM it's at, I need to call the shop and find out :P It's atleast 2000 PRM tho, I already tried it

what is an I pipe?

so if I have 3.23 gears, would 3.73's be good?

I pipe = Intermediate pipe , pipe after the cat to the muffler.

If you're only interested in 0-75 and not 1/4 times, 3:73s would be an improvement. But if you want 1/4 performance, it may hinder you some with TPI , since TPI doesn't like to breathe at higher rpms.

hm... the pipe after the cats and y pipe is actualy quite large, I'm not sure if it's 3 inches or not. I'm going to get an electronic cut out (forgot to mention that) soon, I'm signed up for the group purchase "Thirdgen.org MPP2 GP", and I'm probably going to redo the exhaust, keep my Edelbrock headers, have them go into a y, with a cut out, then a cat (so I can run legaly when the cut out is closed), then one pipe (a 3 inch I pipe from your suggestion) and my flowmaster muffler out back (not sure what series, 40 I assume). Is it possible to have a cutout before the cat? I have never seen one that way.

Sence TPI is 'limited' then what would be a legal alternative? if "major" engine work is needed to install that alternative, then I guess I will purchase it with the intention of getting a cam to match. What is a good alternative? Would any other altearnative be worth it if I don't plan to hit the strip to much?

I'm not to conserned with 1/4 mile times, I plan to go a few times to the strip, but not planning to run regularly, just for some fun.

what brand 3.73s are a good choice? I have heard that some whine a bit more than others. I'm a college student, so which brand would be the best price, but not so cheap as to be unrelyable? If a brand that whines is significantly cheaper, and still relyable, I wouldn't mind the whine (my car makes noises as it is).

Thanks a ton!

Porting the plenum and matching the intake runners to the base and plenum would be a "free" mod that you could do. I don't have a TPI car, but it should be a small but noticeable gain in performance.
