Is the LT4 HOT cam too small for this combo

52mm TB (MAF)
Superram/TPIS bigmouth base
TFS heads G1 (ported bowl area)
Crane 1.5 roller rockers
383 SCAT crank,5.7 rods,11:1 KB pistons machined down to 10.25-10.5 comp.
S10 torque converter (2000-2200 stall)
3.27 rear gear

Ive been told by the builder that the cam is "very mild" for the motor. My options are:

GM cam part #12370846- 222/230 .509/.528 112
GM cam part #12370847- 234/242 .539/.558 112

Are there any other similar cams out there that are cheaper?
Would the MAF handle either cam with a custom chip?

Please I need your input(I have 2 days to decide)!!!

Both will have steeper ramps than the GM ones, and therefore hold the valves farther open longer. The 276 might work OK with the stock chip and is probably the best choice. The 290 will definitely require some work in that area but ought to have some big top end.

Believe the valve spring recommendations!!!

RB8,

The 276 looks really good. And with the 114 LS it should idle better. What do you think is the RPM range of this cam on a 383??

I would estimate that with a carb, it would put the peak torque at about 3700 to 3800 and the peak HP at about 5100 or 5200. It should idle almost smooth, a little choppiness but not a big lope, and should still have reasonably good pull down low). I'm out of my element trying to predict the details of the tuned-port variants. I don't know for sure exactly how the Superram and those heads would interact with it as far as the peak power RPM ranges, but I would think it's mild enough that the numbers would be similar (i.e., the cam's peak isn't out of the range of the induction system.

On a 383 I would definitely recommend 1.6 rockers though. You would benefit from getting all the flow you can get, due to the extra inches and the flow capacities of the ports and intake.

Since your Packin more cubes than a 350 you Can run some more cam in it.
The rule I was taaugh was 5 degrees of intake duration more per 25cubic inches.

so a 230/244 cam would probably work without putting it Into **** fits.

it's be like running a 224/238 cam in a 350... which is Kinda right on the edge of computer loopidome

Either way you look at it.. that 234/242 is probably a shade to big

I'd try that 230/244 if you want an animal, that will probalby work,
the 220/230 cam is a safe play.. as is the 222/230

I would say go with the LT4 HOT CAM, the heads are the determining factor in your combo. I say 375-400hp at 5600rpm or so with the right tuning, right exhaust, and an attention to assembly.

Wit hthe Sr I would stick with a 219 or equivelent ZZ9. The ZZx is a little big for a SR. The most RPM you will get out of a SR is 6200. Now if you want the RPM's like me swap to a miniram and the ZZX will be more in line. On my web page you can see the Rw dyno #'s between the MR and SR. Heads are teh biggest factor. The SR likes the smaller port 180-190 for high velocity. lots of torque. I am not shure on the exact specs with those newer Trick flows. I know there were problems with their older heads wit hthe offset valves. With the SR you gears will ne fine but I would try and get the convertor loosened up a bit more say 2600 stall. All in all nice setup

I've seen a lot of guys run low 12's with the LPE 219 cam .560 lift(1.6 rockers). You can't go wrong with it.

If you pick one of the bigger cams, you will need more gear and converter to take advantage of the powerband.
