obtaining a used 350
im going to be wither modding my 305 or obtaining a used 350 from a yard somewhere inny pretty soo.hopefully b4 the summer.nsyway my question is, is there any specific car make or modell of chevy i SHOULDNT get the engine from?
the reason i might mod the 305 is caue there is nothing wrong with it and it still runs strong so i was thinking of putting in a cam and anintake manifold.
anyone here in nyc can recommend a shop they trust to do the work?
thanx

well, depends on what year car you have. 85 and earlier engines have a 2-piece rear main seal. they also utilize a different flexplate/flywheel and are internally balanced. the 86+ engines are one-piece and externally balanced. 87 started using roller camshafts and most all blocks are machined to use them but only the performance engines got the rollers until some of the later model engines. I would recommend getting an 87 or newer block machined for a roller cam. I would use a roller cam (so finding a roller motor is going to be cheaper than tracking down the roller parts) and have the motor internally balanced by a machineshop. If you have an 85 or older car you will need to find the 86+ balancer and flexplate/flywheel and have the assembly balanced together.
