Testing HEI control module?
Is there a way to test the HEI control module before I end up ripping everything out? The problem I've been having is that the car won't start at night. Turns over, but no spark. Come morning, it starts. It's only happened twice. Everything to the distributor (Accel Blueprint non-CC HEI with in cap coil) is tight and the rest of the car has proper juice. I'm putting on a new cap and rotor. I just don't want to replace something I don't need to.

1. Take it to a parts store.
2. Put it in a car that works.
3. Put one from a car that works in the car that you suspect of having a bad module.
4. Buy another one. That will often fix the one that you have. You can use it in some other car.

supposedly autozone can test those... never had it done, but was in there the other day and saw their sign that said they had that capability, so...

Advance Auto parts (where I work) tests those. We just plug them in a little machine that lights up according to different functions performed by the module - low rpms, high rpms, and 4 other things I can't remember right now. This is what i did when I suspected mine of going bad, and sure enough, it was bad on 5 out of the 6 functions. A new module is around $26 for a standard one, but I paid the extra and got a Holley Annihilator unit. Good luck!
