sometimes i can hear a ticking from underneath the engine. it seams to be comming from the bellhousing like the flywheel is tapping on something. it is pretty loud, a lot louder than a lifter tapping. when the engine warms up almost all the way it stops, i can't find out where it is coming from exactly. any ideas?

check those flexplate to converter bolts. They have a nasty habit of coming loose.

Sounds like an exhaust leak. Have you checked for that???

could just be the clutch in the torque converter mine does the same thing and has done it with both tranny`s and torqueconverters that have been in it but mine is not as loud as you desribe yours to be it is more of a dull sound

i dont think its an exhaust leak. there is one leak but i know what that sounds like and its not that. it might be what biff is talking about, its sort of like a lifter tapping sound but about twice as loud.

with the info you provided, id aim for the exhaust leak..

to check, follow your exhaust manifolds all the way back and look for black residue as if your exhaust pipe were on fire...check your collectors, donuts, welds, flanges, everything.

Also, if you are low on oil, it will make a clicking sound...
