can i remove underhood insulation?

last week my throttle got stuck! i could barely stop the thing to be able to shut it off!

anyhow, the only thing i could figure was the dang insulation on the underside of the hood was getting caught in the throttle thingamajiggie. looked a bit tattered in that spot. i dont know what else it could have been, and it hasnt happened since.

but anyhow! can i remove all that crap under the hood???

It's easy. And in my observation, that insulation never did a DAMN thing for quieting the engine like it should...all it does is keep the hood from heating up. It's got little plastic holders in..a sh!tload of em..just yank them all.

ive heard that the insulation prtects the paint on the hood from getting f'ed up from the engine heat, but ive also heard thats bs so u decide

if your throttle got stuck are you sure it wasnt on the carpet in the car. That happened to me when i went Wide open throttle taking off with my firends stang next to me. Anyway i killed the ignition and it diesieled out like ****. I thought i was seriously gunna **** something up.

Anyway, moral of the story is dont let the damn floor mats get in the way.

I don't have insulation under my hood (my radiater blew up once, and tore it to shreds)... I love the fact that when I start my car up with snow on the hood, the snow is gone in 2 minutes.

My 82 hasn't had one since 93(when I bought it), Not too long after I bought it, it was painted. Paint still looks really good in 2003 I've heard all sorts of reasons to keep it: protect the paint(the sun beating down on the paint will get it hotter), insulate sounds(if it's knocking I want to hear it), if the engine catches fire, the plastic tabs will melt and the insulation will fall and smother the fire(possible but not real likely)
