Emissions Exemption
I know the law states that cars 25 years old or older are exempt , but is that from the time the law was passed or does it add a new model year every year. Basically what I'm asking is when will my '79 Malibu be exempt, and why?
Thanks,
Larry

Car: 2006 Tacoma X-Runner
Engine: 4.0L DOHC V6
Transmission: 6-Speed Manual

California is cars over 30 yrs will be exempt. It works like this, it is 2003 right now so 30 yrs ago was 1973. That means cars made in 1973 or earlier are exempt. Next year 2004 the starting year for exemption will be 1974. Hope this helps.

That's how I assumed it worked, but in NY it's 25 years. It's just that everyone I have asked, gives me a different answer. I really hope that's correct, and in 2004 my car will be exempt.:lala:
