Why not use the '93 LT1 T56?
I am seriously considering a swap from my auto trans to a T56. I've been doing research and I know that the '93 is not preferred due to the .62 overdrive vs. the .50 in a '94-'97 T56 (the .62 is still better than the overdrive in my 700R4). I also like the lower first gear ratio in the '93. Other than the gear ratios, why not use the '93 T56?
The reason I ask is because a brand new '93 Tremec T56 (10236021) goes for ~$1700 where a new '94-'97 Tremec T56 (12558016) goes for ~$2900.
What makes the '94-'97 T56 worth $1200 more? Experts, please!

you also need to take into consideration what gears you have.. A .50 OD gear with my rear gears puts me going 70 at about 1500 RPMS. which with my current set up is not where i want to be.. also i hear the 94+ are stronger.

Please explain "stronger". Does that make the '93 "weak", or just not as strong as the newer ones?
edit: I just found some info...the '93 is rated at 400 lb-ft and the '94-'97 is rated at 450 lb-ft. So again, my question is why not use the '93 if it is still rated at 400 lb-ft? I would be pushing just over that figure, but not by much (25 lb-ft or so). And the car is purely a street cruiser and will not see harsh abuse...er, well not too much

the 93 isn't weak, it'll probably handle 11's without any issue's. the 94 will handle just about all you'd want to throw at it.

Definately if you can, you can upgrade to viper internals.....that'll push it well over the 500 ftlb mark and you have room for future mods without worrying about the tranny.
