rear end prices

I just found a rebuilt 10 bolt rear end with disk brakes, and 3.73 gear, and posi. does 450 sound like a good price. they say it took 700 to put the rear together.also what will I need to do to change from drum brakes to disk. thanks.

Sounds expensive to me! A Zexel is $100 a set of 373's are $50 and an S/10 away at least at our wrecking yards. seals, and setup shouldn't run more than $150.00 you know exactly what you've got and you don't have to take the rear out! I've seen welded spiders gov-loc rears and people try to pas off 3:42's for 3:73 you want it right?

It's a good price IF it's a 90-up with the PBR calipers and 28-spline axles, and IF it's really a 3.73 posi. If it's cast-iron calipers, don't do it. I might also add, if it's a Gov-Lock, don't do it. It should at the very least be the stock posi for one of these cars. The Gov-Lock will send pieces through the cover the first time it spins one wheel in a puddle and then suddenly hits dry land, with a V8 in front of it.

If it's the PBR calipers, you don't have to do anything at all to the brakes: the drum & disk MC & PV are the same in cars with that type of brakes, and the parking brake cables on it will hook right up to your adjuster like they were made to.

stock type would be cone type, still not as good as the old eaton clutch pack type posi units though, and gov loks are yeah.. just plain garbage, known as grenade-loks

what should I get if the brakes come with it. the rear only has 2000 mile on it he says. he says they are richmond 3.73, but doesnt know what brand, but says it has held fine in his 13 second car. what would you consider a good price for this rear.

i got the identical rear for 300.. i thought the price was a little steep though.. due to the fact that im runnin 15 inch rims i chose to stay with the drums.. it had a new eaton posi and 373 richmond ring and pinion.. when i got it i took it apart to see if i was ripped off or not.. looked pretty good.. clutches look new.. has all new wheel bearings.. the gear oil was still looked new.. rear had 1k on it and the guy smacked the car up...

Don't line up one of these behind an engine with any kind of torque:
