general valve spring question
ok, me and a bud are building a mild 350... the cam we are putting in the motor is a comp hydrolic roller with 224/230 duration @ .050 lift, 503/510 and 112 lobe separation. the springs on the trick flow 23 degree heads at the moment are different than what came with them, we bought the heads from a friend, who installed the same springs that are on the K1 pro topline pro lightning iron heads..
the spring specs are 1.46" od, single springs with damper, 110 lbs seat pressure @ 1.800" and 275 lbs open pressure at 1.250", .550" max lift...
i remember reading that roller cams should get double valve springs... should we upgrade these to double? or can we leave these on here since the cam's lift works with the max lift? we are valve spring dumb in the head, so any help is greatly appreciated

Because of the extra weight of a hyd roller lifter a hyd roller setup needs all the help it can get in the valvespring department.
Especially the aftermarket fast action profiles like comps.
You should check the actual seat and open pressure of your springs on your heads to see if they are within spec for what
comp cams calls for for that cam. If not I'd change the springs.
If you can afford the roller cam you can afford to drop the right springs on.
Email Comp Cams tech dept, they are the best source
for info on their products.

One of my friends has that same cam. I think you have the Comp XR 276 HR.
Anyway, I found that Comp cams recommends their 986 spring. Here's the link to the info.

Also, for more info I just learned this...

how hard is it to switch to dual valve springs if we get those comp's? the comps are .03" smaller od than these, will that matter? or is it close enough with 1.46 vs 1.43? those specs for the single are close though arent they? but then again i dont want to jeapordize everything with something as stupid as this lol just want to make sure we need to change them before we do it for nothing
oh yea, that cam number you mentioned before is the cam we have.
