4 bolt mexican longblock?

i finally found a cheap engine i can do a performance rebuild on. its a 4 bolt mexican longblock 350 with 40,000 miles. i was wondering if this is a good engine? and how do they hold up? also does anybody know what side the dipstick is on? i dont think it will work if its on the drivers side will it? thanks alot

Depends, I've got one , the LM-1 engine, a stock replacement GM Goodwrench 350.

It's held up just fine for me, though it's only got about 12k miles on it.

I just replaced the cam not long ago, and I'm in the process of a head swap now.

It came with a 3yr/50k mile warranty too. Guess I've voided that now , lol.

if the dip sticks on the drivers side you need headers. also put the dipstick tube in after you install the headers it is a lot easer that way.

Those engines were universal, the dipstick can go in either side. The only thing is where did the previous owner put the dipstick? the engine comes with 2 plugs when you get it new, you plug the hole that you don't use for the dipstick. Also I'd forget about trying to remove the plug if the dipstick isn't on the side you want, when i put the plug in my engine it took considerable hammering to get it in and seated.

is that the same mexican 4 bolt block that was on ebay not too long ago? that engine looked like it was kinda rough, not horrible, but it looked like it had a hard 44k on it...

yeah, it was till i got outbid, but thats ok. i found a nice 4 bolt main 350 that needs a top end rebuild at the salvage yard. so im gunna try for it because my 305 is gone, it is now knocking, got anti freeze and gas in my oil and it will barely stay running so its time to park it
