How to speed up my 305 CFI
I need some help here. I just bought a 82 Z28 with a Cross Fire Injection and the motor was bad. So my Uncle found a 305 for me from some guy at work for 50$ so i figured i would get it even though i wanted a 350. It came out of a 89 firebird with a TBI. I am tired of my friends bragging it up about how fast there **** burners are so I am hoping to make my Camaro pretty fast because they always tell me how slow they are. So do i need to do hear. Keep the CFI or use a TBI or a Carb. Any other suggestions to make my engine faster or anything to put more horesepower on my car would be great to. Thanks for anyone who reppiles to this I appreciate it.

Congrats!!!
What kind of shape is it in??? Sounds like ANY HP would be an improvement at this point.
If the car hasn't sat around and the motor blew recently, then I'd say use the CFI for staters. Save your money and get it running first. You have all the stock parts, so see what you have first. the car could have other problems.
Unfortunately, the TBI motor was a slight step down from the engine you had. As I recall, the CFI you have, had 9.5:1 compression, but the TBI motor's compression is slightly lower, and it has a whimpier cam. No big deal for now.
If you want to add stuff later, just cruise around the board a bit. Lots of guys have built 305's, and they can make decent HP and torque, but only buy parts that will adapt to a 350 later on if you plan to swap. I might eventually get the crate 383 for mine, but you can build a 305 that hauls....one guy on this board runs 11's with a 305.....yes with a 150 shot, but even off the bottle he's in the 12's from what he's said.
Just never forget, there's no replacement for displacement!! Put those same goodies on a 350, and you're flirting with 10's! :hail:
I can't complain at all about my 305. I've owned 350's in the past that were slower. So far I bought my car for 500 and most likely spent close to 3000 on it so far, and it still needs 3000 more in paint, etc....

well, some exhaust, k and n filters, a chip, shift kit, and gear is a good place to start with an 82. i'd contact turbo city if you plan to add much power as they know what it takes to make a cfi system work well.

Ouch, an L03, well, start with the weak areas.
Get full exhaust, some Hooker 2055s with a Hooker cat-back.
The heads are horrible, if you can find a cheap pair off a TPI 305 you can port them to flow very well for a 305.
If on a budget you can pick up a used LT1 cam for cheap.
What gears are in the car?
