What is this thing called???
Help me out a little here...My 83 Camaro 305/5speed has a sensor mounted on the thermostat housing with two wires that run off to the passenger side of the carb (choke I think)
It has a porcelin shaft that is cracked. The wires are melted, and when I moved them, the engine started to run vewry strangley. I thought it was for the vacumm switch, but no parts book shows it?
I want to replace this thing, but my local parts guy is clueless...

Yellow & black wires? Round, sort of coaxial looking connector? It's the Coolant Temp Sensor for the computer.
A new one doesn't have that stupid connector; they usually come with a little pigtail including the newer design connector that you splice onto your existing wires after you cut the stupid one off.

The wires are BARE right now, but the connector does have that "coaxial" look to it. I thought that's what it was, but the one I looked at in the parts store was different. It has a plug in connector with pigtail wires, so that must me the one.
Man does it run crappy...
I will go get one at lunch. Putting a timing chain in this weekend (starting to chatter), so I will get that done as well.
Thanks for the help!
