Check your throttle return spring... It may be caught on something.

try this

You need a leadfoot to press the loudpedal........

I just couldnt resist.......

Try lubing the throttle cable (or replacing...they do go bad) and check for binding or excess return spring pressure on the bellcrank end. Also check the under dash pivot points.

What does this mean for someone with no mechanical experience whatsoever? How much should a mechanic charge for this?

this is one of the easiest things believe me, do you have carb or tpi?or tbi?

either way pop the hood, if you want have someone hit the gas , car off of course, and look for a lever that moves, you should see a spring on it. that's the spring we're talkin about.

Ok, I actually know the lever your talking about. What do I do once i have someone press on the gas? If I need to lube the cable, what type of lube should I use? Oh, it's a carb 84z to be exact. Thanks!

Well, don't worry about someone pushin the gas then, pull back on the lever and look at the cable as it moves, does it not stretch out the way it should, as you pull back? You may just need a new spring, or make sure it isn't hitting anything.

Ever since I converted from TPI to carb my gas pedal is annoyingly stiff also. With a dual return spring its real annoying so I only run 1 spring and its still too stiff.
