Where to rig in a kill switch?

Where to rig in a kill switch?

I put mine under the dash connected to my fuel pump wire.
I figured if engine bay went on fire or something, or *** forbid have to shut off the engine while running for some reason last thing I need is for the pump to keep supplying fuel but at the same time not cut me off from steering.
It reminded me of this story I read on here once about a guy with a vette whose throttle blades stuck WOT and he killed the engine via the ignition key, but he locked the steering wheel and plowed into the concrete barrier. After reading that I made mine. Keep steering, but engine off.
Is this the intended effect or am I on crack or something?

Hey genious... if all u wanted to do was kill the engine and then maintain steering incase of a problem... u can turn off the key, so u lose steering and the engine shuts off, and then immediately return the key to the aux position... this will regain your steering ability, and the engine's still off. Just a lil food for thought.

I rigged mine to the starter wire on my alarm, if u dont have an alarm, try to splice into your starter wire if u can find it. One thing tho, my starter hesitates ever since i messed with that wire. Just so you know

I've owned my car for 4 years... completely rebuilt it, and changed over entire interior. I just realized 2 months ago, that the guy before me had hooked in a switch inline of the distributor power, which is a large 1½in push switch, and he installed it directly behind the carpet behind the brake pedal. I never even knew the damn thing was there, but it's pretty nifty. Just push u'r foot against the carpet behind the brake pedal and now no one can start u'r car but u, and no one ever expects it or would find it. I use it all the time now, now that I found it.

Hey man, I was merely acknowleding the fact that he said in an intense situation he would have turned the key off and then would have lost steering, so he wouldnt' do that. I was only stating the fact that if u then return the key right away u would regain steering. So get over u'rself.

That's too many motions to get the desired effect of a kill switch. Therefore too much time. Time is valuable and 3 tenths of a sec could be the difference between life and death at 100 mph.
So no I'd feel much safer with a REAL kill switch.
Another aspect is about 7 years ago I saw a camaro race and lose control and flip into ditch.. his fuel pump was in line and electric and kept pumping gas into a small fire that turned into a blaze.
According to reports it seemed like his engine was going so he cut the ignition via key to save it, lost control @ 110 mph and couldn't recover...
So I'm not no genious, but hell if I die like that... you're welcome to do that in your car if your so *** damn fast with the hands if *** forbids that happens to you.

I just need something to stop a theif (car is rarely driven) but never know. I got too much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ into this car.

doesn't sound like they answered your original question about which wire, I'll check out a couple of schematics and let ya know. btw do you just want to keep the starter from starting or a kill switch to shut the engine off also?

Heres what I would like. A switch to where i can drive the car normally, but if I leave it somewhere. I'd like to be able to flip a switch so it cant start.

The best thing to do would be to wire a switch to your starter wire. then you can flip the switch on, start the car with your key, then flip the switch off when the car is started. that's the best way to do that

Wouldn't it be better to wire the kill switch up to the fuel pump for theft purposes than to the starter switch? I think if someone were trying to steal your car, they are much less likely to think you have a hidden switch if the engine would turn over than if it didn't.

This is just a shot in the dark here but ok.. you would wire the switch to the wire that runs into the distributor to power the distributor cheak ur manual to find out what guage or read the wire that that wire is and then buy a corresponding switch. a starter uses a really high guage wire because of the power running through it so if u used a pinner switch the starter would hesitate right?

I got an idea here i hope ppl are still looking at this thread its not kill switch related but here it goes. its kinda trick i want to rig a switch so to start the car i haveto turn the key to the on position and the push i hidden button or open button somwhere whereever i decide and also have a kill switch on the distributor wire its a trick idea and i think it would be kinda cool not like needed but as i said kinda trick? what u think and how would u wire it ?

Yep, one wire is purple and the other is kind of beige/yellowish with a white stripe. One thing that I dont think anyone has mentioned so far is how many amps go through that wire that goes to the P/N switch and the rest of the ignition. It's a pretty hefty 10 gauge wire, so I'd be careful about what switch you wire in. If the car is VATS equipped, you can tap into the same circuit farther along, at the starter enable relay. It's behind the driver side kick panel.
Personally I'd rather wire it into the fuel or distributor. It probably uses a smaller gauge wire and is less likely to burn up the switch, plus it makes it harder for the thief to find if the car cranks but wont start, because it could be anything at that point. My main concern is being able to conceal the switch, yet have it somewhere where I can reach it easily, AND where I can access it to bypass it should the switch go bad.
