Oil filter part number?

Anyone out there know the part number for the longer (read larger volume) oil filer for "86, 305 TPI. Any of the larger manufacturers will do. I can cross reference it. Thanks

You should have an AC delco PF-25. U can use a PF-35 which is larger.

if you do not have the oil cooler then it's acdelco pf-932. if you have the cooler, then it's pf-35.

pf 1218 is the same as the pf35 but it comes with an anti drain back valve in the filter.

ok that helps. but it's not as long as the pf-932. because the pf-35 is what comes on big block chevy. which is about 2" longer than the pf-25. the pf-932 is what comes on the GM very large trucks. like the c6500 series and dump trucks. which is twice as long.

I'll admit outright that i've never used the super gigantor filter, always stuck with the pf-1218 or 35 depending on what the store had in stock. I've heard that the gigantor filter will come down to be basically even with the bottom of the oil pan, which is just a little too low for comfort for my taste. True if you somehow manage to take out the filter you are no doubt gonna wack some other stuff under there like the y-pipe, oil pan and maybe tranny pan to, but i still would try to avoid the extra quad-fecta (is that a word, lol) of wacking the filter too in that event.
And for those that think what i am saying is near impossible, think again. I trashed my Y-pipe, oil pan and tranny pan last winter. If my oil filter would have been at the level of my oil pan, it would have been gone too, making an already screwed up situation just that much worse.

yes. with the pf-932 you will have a total of 6 quarts in the system. and yes. it is just at the bottom of the oil pan. the crossmember is lower than that. so, in order to hit it, you would have to almost take out the crossmember.

do you need that much filter? well an extra quart means that the oil will be cooler. you will have twice as much filtration. you don't have to. but it doesn't hurt.

No it's not necessary. A PF-25 is more than adequate for most applications. You are better off with more sump capacity than a larger filter. One thing most people don't realize is that an average filter operates in the bypass mode more than one would think. Every time you hit the gas off a light your oil is normally not filtered. Most AC-Delco filters bypass at 8-17psi so if an abrupt change occurs the oil simply flows around the filter. I know this will generate so much CRAP I don't want to mention it, but in all reality after the engine has been broken in one could probably run without a filter and not cause any premature failure of any engine component. The filter you choose is strictly up to you, but any decent quality filter will work just fine. Oil filtration actually came about in the early days when oil was not enhanced with additives and machining was less than ideal. The amount of debris in a modern engine can be measured in a thimble. The actual function of a modern filter is to remove combustion by-products but whether you pay 99 cents or $10 bucks for a filter it probably won't make any difference. Let the games begin.

What good is an anti-drainback valve on a motor on which the filter hangs in such a way that it can`t drain back unless you turn the car on its side or upside down. I have used almost ever filter possible on my T/A and have seen no benefit or loss due to any of them.
