starter troubles
i just purchased a new starter for my 84 Z HO 305. I was given the option of a standard and a high performance one at the local autoparts store. the standard and the high performance one had a completely differant bolt pattern. I didnt have one for visual inspection to make sure they were the same. So i went ahead and got the HP. It bolts up but the bolts bottom out 1/2 inch before the starter is tight against the block. has anybody else had this same problem?

when i did my t-56 swap. i found a random starter in my auto tech class. and it just happen to bolt right up. but i had the problem u did about the bolts not being long enough. i just use a bunch of washers to fill in the space. been fine so far for the past 3 months, and its a daily driver.. u could try to get shorter starter bolts.. but make sure they are strong enough to handle all that torque coming from ur starter..
