Desmogging My IROC

I want to remove my the emissions equipment on my 89 Iroc. It has TPI 350. It have added Edelbrock Centerbolt Performers and a Crane Powermax cam both of which are emissions legal but I'd like to get a few more horses cheaply. Is it as simple as just pulling the pump off and plugging the Headers? Or is there more involved.

Thanks

If you want more horses, removing the A.I.R. system isn't going to fill up your corral. The air injection system, on its WORST day at PEAK RPM will rob maybe 1-2HP from your engine. A cheapo air filter costs you more than that. Most of the time, the power steering pump has a greater standby load than the AIR pump creates. Ever wonder why the first cars to have A.I.R. had such a tiny little 'V' belt for the pump? That's why.

Good point...

Besides, if everything in the system is working like it should, it won't affect power at all when at WOT! As designed, the system diverts the AIR from the manifolds and smog pump to the converter via the hard line coming from the engine compartment. The ONLY benefit from removing a WORKING smog system is less clutter underhood.
