Remedies for running a big cam
if you look in my sig (still at the shop though...needed custom bolts so that's why it wasn't done by OCT 18th), you will see what i am running.
I was told that i would be bucking like a bronco below 2000-2500 RPMs. What can i do to remediate this. I don't want to go to 4.10s because of the damn labor (plus 150 for the Kit).
BTW, I am going to get a vac reserve tank for my brakes..safety first right

That puppy is going to idle rough no matter what you do.
There are few things you can tweek on the carb setup and ignition timing to make it a little more street friendly, but if
how it runs at low rpm is such a concern, why such a big cam?
You have some pretty beauti flowing heads. Why not pick a cam that will be much more street friendly, but still powerfull and let the heads make the horsepower.
Something like the XE268H or XE274H would be much more easier to live with
and still get ya down the road in a hurry.
Picking the right cam for *your* purpose is probabily the hardest thing to do right, and where most people go wrong.
Making the most horsepower is pretty easy, pick a big one.
Living with that setup on the street day to day is a whole different thing.
Something to think about.

Car: T/A / Grand Am
Engine: 383 SBC
Transmission: glide
Axle/Gears: 9" ford 5.67
With the 373s, shouldn't be so bad. The differance between 373s and 410s isn't much. Might be just the differance between running with a slight lope or smooth though. Wouldn't worry about it much till you get it going, might be ok.

yeah
if worse comes to worse I will just swap back my old cam but keep my 1.6 roller rockers on there to get the extra lift.
Also, anyone ever heard of those lifters that decrease duration by 10* in the low RPMs? The variable duration hydraulic lifters...how are they?
