Engine Rebuild Kits?
I will be rebuilding my engine this summer, hopefully, and I was wondering where I could get a good complete engine rebuild kit. Don't need a cam, or a crankshaft, or anything like that; that will be bought separate. I am looking for a kit that has pistons, rings, gaskets, seals, all bearings, freeze plugs, etc. I would prefer good well-known brands in the kit such as fel-pro, etc. Let me know where I could find a good kit.

i got mine out of a northern auto parts magazine. www.northernautoparts.com . thats the site on the front of the magazine...probably sell it all there. it comes with a camshaft, but you can switch it to a larger one if you want. comes with hyper pistons too. only $300

My suggestion is to go to www.pawinc.com and order their 1200pg catalog. It's around $6.
I got a complete "Deluxe Master Rebuild Kit" for a '90 LO5 TBI that came with......
Flat Top Pistons (I upgraded to Speed Pro hypers w/ skirt coating)
Rings (I upgraded to Hastings moly)
Rod and Main bearings (Clevite 77)
Cam and lifters (hyd. flat tappet for me)
Timing Chain (I upgraded to Milodon double roller)
Oil pump (Milodon)
Complete Gasket kit (ROL, and I mean complete. It even has TPI intake gaskets in there )
I also bought ARP rod bolts and main bolts (4 bolt), moly lube, piston ring pliers and compression sleeve, rod bolt sleeves, Plastigauge (I now have mics ), and complete brush kit to clean the block.
All that cost me ~$550 shipped. That may sound like a lot, but if you were to buy all of those things individually, it would cost a lot more.
Besides, even if you don't buy from them, it's fun to sit on the "throne" for hours with a 1200 pg. catalog. :sillylol:
I can't tell you how many hours I spent drooling over that catalog. There were more pages stuck together than a Playboy magazine. :hail: From drool, not the other stuff

You may also want to check out www.enginekits.com (i.e. Power House like radiateu2 mentioned).
They advertise a complete rebuild kit for pre-85 350 for $153. I don't know how much a kit for a 1 pc. rear main block would cost, but you can call them or order their catalog. It's more like a flyer though. About 10 pgs. maybe.

I would have sized it down but I wanted you'll to see the fine print for parts manufactures that would'nt have shown up if I shrunk it.

OK..... you're wrong.
That's for a pre-85 engine. You need to learn to read.
If you pay attention, he's got an '88 305 TPI.....
What you have shown is good.......
FOR AN OLD *** 350!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Besides...... that's similar to what I showed him at www.enginekits.com
I don't see a 305 Kit at www.enginekits.com though...... maybe I overlooked it.

If this is your 1st rebuild let me tell you some hints to help you out sorry if this sounds like belittlement, it isnt ok. Dont buy anything until you have your block stripped and checked for cracks and while the machine shop has it make sure they check your crank mic it for bearings glaze break or bore the cylinders and have them mic it for the right size pistons and rings. I f they tank it to clean it it usually wipes out the cam bearings so have them replaced. Make sure you have all of the necessary info before calling and placing your order. Rely heavily on the machine shop to tell you which bearing and ring sizes you need. Thats what you pay them for. The one disadvantage to buying stuff mail order is the returning and crediting for ordering the wrong stuff. It can chew up alot of time especially if working on a limited budget. Thats why I go through every single part that I took out of the engine and list what needs to be replaced. The overhaul kits are nice but they may have stuff that you dont need or may omit stuff that you do need oh and always replace your oil pump and the high pressure or high volumes are not always necessary

I was an ethanol freak when it first became available cause the price was lower for a little higher octane. BUT...I usually fill my truck up 3-4 times a week and I started to notice a decline with my MPG, so I swithched back to the good ole straight 87 octane and got it back up to 12mpg. For most people daily driving losing 2-3mpg is'nt that big a deal, but I travel all over the state doing construction so everylittle bit I can save goes into my race car, tools, or play money. Then when I had my Polaris Sportsman 500 it ran on the ethanol, but in the winter it would "act up" I got to talking with the Polaris shop and they told me to keep they ethanol out of the "toys" they've had multiple snowmobiles that would'nt even start cause there was "more mositure" in the ethanol over conventinal fuel. I don't know cause I'm not a fuel expert, but I do know MY truck runs better with straight gasoline as well as the race car and my toys.
As far as northern auto parts there locataed in Souix City, Iowa and like you said as a whole they have a good selection-new catalog has even more than the first-at about the same prices as Summit or Jegs and sometimes lower, and they're customer service and shipping is outstanding, everyone I've ever talked to there sounds like an old buddy you have'nt seen in awhile. Just very customer orientated.
